Brambly Trails Blackberry & Apple Crumble

Brambly Bakes - Apple & Blackberry Crumble

A change in season calls for one thing… a comforting bowl of crumble. With crisp mornings, golden leaves and cosy evenings on the way, this Apple & Blackberry Crumble is the perfect autumn bake for gathering the whole family around the table.

With tangy Bramley apples, juicy blackberries and a golden, buttery topping, this crumble is super simple to make - and it’s a lovely recipe for little helpers to get involved with. They can tip in the fruit, mix the crumble and sprinkle it over the top. Then all that’s left to do is serve it warm with plenty of custard or a scoop of ice cream.

Autumn alfresco, made cosy

We served ours using a few pieces from our new autumn alfresco collection, bringing warm seasonal tones to the table. Here’s everything you need to make this autumn favourite at home.

Ingredients

  • 200g plain flour
  • 100g cold butter, cubed
  • 100g granulated sugar
  • 750g Bramley apples
  • 250g fresh blackberries
  • 1 tbsp sugar for the fruit

Step-by-step guide

Preheat the oven to 180°C. Peel, core and chop the Bramley apples, then add them to an ovenproof dish with the fresh blackberries. Children can sprinkle over one tablespoon of sugar and gently toss the fruit together.

To make the topping, rub the cold butter into the flour with your fingertips until the mixture resembles breadcrumbs - a lovely job for little helpers. Stir through the granulated sugar, then sprinkle the crumble generously and evenly over the fruit. Place the dish in the oven and bake for around 35-40 minutes, until the topping is golden and the fruit is bubbling at the edges. Serve warm with plenty of custard or ice cream and enjoy together.
